Enough hibernation

I was hoping that it wouldn't get so cold for this round, but it is. I am ready to come out of hibernation.  Mama bears, when they come out for the spring are really grouchy and if things don't change soon, I might get that way myself. So here is the update and I will have to tell you that while there is good news there won't be any wonderful pictures unless you are interested in:

My new shower curtain. The liner snaps off just below the net part so that it can be washed without washing the whole thing. Clever, I think. 

My flower arranging. Dean bought this vase is Japan when he was in SE Asia and this is the first time I have ever put anything in it. It was his mother's and she kept it in a curio cabinet; I never thought about any practical use for it until yesterday. 

This vase is a Jane Peiser piece that I have used often. 

If those things don't interest you, how about:
The laundry that Dean brought home from church for me to wash. I have become the laundry woman for the Men's Prayer Breakfast. Don't you think the laundry should be done by a man? 

My computer is so slow today that I could scream. I think it is cold. I'm cold. I'm slow. 
Yesterday afternoon and last night I took up knitting again. If I ever want to finish this afghan I had best do that all these cold days and evenings. The cup with three ewes on it says"Baaaad girls". It was a gift from Jenny and Alex. 

Honestly, that is about all that is happening around here. I look at garden things on the (slow) computer, do a little drawing, today I hope to do a little painting, I vacuum up dog hair two or three times a day (so glad that Labradoodles don't shed). I eat. I eat everything that is not nailed down.  I hope that it gets warm soon.

All is well (although cold)

It is good that you are using you MIL's vase. I like it. I did not need to see any laundry, there is already plenty here at the Bijou!

I enjoyed reading your posts and your art works. Your pencil sharpener and erasers got my attention. I have and old electric pencil sharpener that I inherited from the leftovers at RepublicBank after they went bankrupt. As an old engineer, I get a warm good feeling using a number 2 pencil, so I keep plenty sharpened ones when I'm doing some serious analytical work or making entries into my daily journal. Your remark about keeping journals reminds me that the older I get, the more forgetful I become as to remembering to write each day. I believe it is a good habit to keep as it helps Cathy and I settle friendly discussions better known as spousal arguments over when an event happened. LOL Tom McCarty

Rain, lovely rain

We are having a long slow, soft rain and it is wonderful. We have lately had our share of hard winds, hard, rain, and hard heat.  Gentle is a nice change. So far the ground isn't saturated, but it is getting a good soak. The leaves on the redbud outside the dining room, gather drops. The leaves are huge and heart shaped and the effect is lovely. There is no breeze so the drops cling until the rain is harder or gravity finally pulls them to the ground. Out the front door the street is all shiny and the air is clean. The porch could stand some paint but that will have to wait for another, drier day. What you can't see here is a stack of newspapers that accumulated while we were gone and forgot to stop delivery and which I put off dealing with while it was so hot. They have to be freed from the plastic bag and rubber band , flattened and put with the recycling. Maybe I should just stop taking the paper, but It is good to keep up with the local happenings. Some Apples

Some apples that Alex brought from a tree at his mother's house in NC and a guava(?) from the grocery store.  Once I sketched these in I had to go sit down - it had been so new to me and took so much concentration that I was shaky! I have a long way to go but I am going. For this 4"x4" I mixed the colors from a basic palette of two yellows, one warm and one cooler, two reds (same),  two blues(again warmer and cooler) and white. I have previously used more colors and have a drawer full but learning to mix what I need is part of the challenge. I see all the errors on this, I think, but if you want to critique, have at it. I won't get mad and will most likely learn something! All is well and all will most certainly be well! XOXOXO. Caroline

Up the stairs and down again.

This old house has ceilings that are about nine and one-half feet high. That means that there are 17 steps from one floor to the next. Today I decided that I had to take all the Christmas decorations up to the attic after making one last sweep through the house for forgotten little doodads. I carried up 11 loads. I had no idea that we had so many decorations. Actually, some of the boxes were quite light as they were fitted out for tree ornaments, most of which are feather-light. Still, by the time I finished, my knees were complaining. Oh, yes, the quilt on the wall is one I made years ago and the only one of mine to have been published in a quilting book. It is covering the place where we cut an opening for the whole house fan.  Here is a closeup. Well, it is kinda close up. I was standing on the steps.
