I bought a painting


I bought an original painting by Francis Matia, soon to be Vicki's daughter-in-law. Her style is a little edgier than mine as you will notice. It is not really what you would expect in a mostly Arts and Crafts style house, but I like it here. This is the view as you come in our front door.

No helper in the studio today but I got some work done. The banner on the blog today is the newest pour and I did some beginning work on it. Don't ask me what it means or what things are because I really don't know.  The white is glare from my flash. I like this so far, but I am going mark by mark and really feeling my way.

Here is The Girl. She is either finished or very close to it. She also has a glare from the flash on her dress. I am not sure why she is sitting there. Maybe she is thinking about her "parfait gentil knight", or maybe she is considering the cloistered life. Daydreaming, that is certain.
Chattanooga is having "Wine Over Water" next weekend; a wine tasting on the pedestrian-only bridge across the TN river. I was going until I found out that the tickets are $65. You can taste a lot of wine, but I can't drink it because of my rosacea.

This week has flown, too. I guess they all do when you are busy so I had best be prepared for the next week. Tomorrow and Monday I will be working on EfM homework (some of Paul's shorter letters); Tuesday morning is library and Wednesday morning is art class. Thursday will be a studio day, Friday the family is coming over to our house for  brother Buddy's birthday dinner. Dean's brother and sister -in-laware making a stop here on their leaf-peeping trip in October but they aren't sure yet just when.

I love what you have done to your new pour. I am planning to stamp on mine but I have no hope it will look as good as your does. It has a dreamy look to it.

I think that girl "was never meant to work." haha

Rain, lovely rain

We are having a long slow, soft rain and it is wonderful. We have lately had our share of hard winds, hard, rain, and hard heat.  Gentle is a nice change. So far the ground isn't saturated, but it is getting a good soak. The leaves on the redbud outside the dining room, gather drops. The leaves are huge and heart shaped and the effect is lovely. There is no breeze so the drops cling until the rain is harder or gravity finally pulls them to the ground. Out the front door the street is all shiny and the air is clean. The porch could stand some paint but that will have to wait for another, drier day. What you can't see here is a stack of newspapers that accumulated while we were gone and forgot to stop delivery and which I put off dealing with while it was so hot. They have to be freed from the plastic bag and rubber band , flattened and put with the recycling. Maybe I should just stop taking the paper, but It is good to keep up with the local happenings. Some Apples

Some apples that Alex brought from a tree at his mother's house in NC and a guava(?) from the grocery store.  Once I sketched these in I had to go sit down - it had been so new to me and took so much concentration that I was shaky! I have a long way to go but I am going. For this 4"x4" I mixed the colors from a basic palette of two yellows, one warm and one cooler, two reds (same),  two blues(again warmer and cooler) and white. I have previously used more colors and have a drawer full but learning to mix what I need is part of the challenge. I see all the errors on this, I think, but if you want to critique, have at it. I won't get mad and will most likely learn something! All is well and all will most certainly be well! XOXOXO. Caroline

Up the stairs and down again.

This old house has ceilings that are about nine and one-half feet high. That means that there are 17 steps from one floor to the next. Today I decided that I had to take all the Christmas decorations up to the attic after making one last sweep through the house for forgotten little doodads. I carried up 11 loads. I had no idea that we had so many decorations. Actually, some of the boxes were quite light as they were fitted out for tree ornaments, most of which are feather-light. Still, by the time I finished, my knees were complaining. Oh, yes, the quilt on the wall is one I made years ago and the only one of mine to have been published in a quilting book. It is covering the place where we cut an opening for the whole house fan.  Here is a closeup. Well, it is kinda close up. I was standing on the steps.
