Life with Bobo

Image
Bella was a puppy 12 years ago. I had forgotten some things about puppies when the lady in Home Depot saw the word "sucker" on my forehead. Yesterday when Bo woke up I jumped up and said "let's go out" in as chipper a voice as I could manage. "Just a minute", he said, and went into the bathroom to pee on the bathmat which someone had left on the floor. Then he went out and peed and pooped. Or he goes outside and then remembers on re-entering that he didn't quite finish and leaves a puddle on the floor. How can a little dog produce so much waste product? All that playing and jumping just wears a boy out! If I am carrying something made of fabric I have to carry it at waist level. Bobo will jump to get any string, cloth, rug, your clothes, your towel - whatever you are carrying. It makes getting dressed, loading the washer, unloading the washer, loading the dryer, emptying the dryer, etc, etc, and so forth a more interesting  time consuming

Sara bought some extensions for her hair, newly cut and beautifully grey, and she and Jenny played with them inly to decided that they didn't really look good, so I got to play. With Jenny's help I have a new hairdo.  I just thought that you might like a giggle. I wore this all day today, swimming, shopping and just hanging around. It is in there to stay for a while! It feels weird sometimes but sometimes I forget about it. Speaking of forgetting, today I got in the pool with my hearing aids in! Fortunately I went down the ladder and splashed in with a big noodle float under me and my head didn't go under. I nearly had a heart attack when I started to scratch my ear and felt the tube that goes from receiver to microphone (from behind the ear to in the ear). Buying new aids is not in the budget! All will be well,  XOXOXO Caroline

Update

You can find so much on the internet. Apparently potatoes are famous fire starters when combined with a microwave. AND, fire scorches can be removed with nail polish remover or Simple Green. We had the polish remover so that was the choice and it worked! Clean microwave! All will be well XOXOXO Caroline

Something New

We just learned how to make fire a new way. You might not have all the equipment, but if you do, here is the method. You will need: Left over fried potatoes Corelle salad plate microwave with which you are not familiar. Put potatoes on plate and put them in the microwave. Set microwave for 1 minute. Start something else so that you don't realize that more than one minute has passed and the microwave is still running. When you mother and sister call your attention to the smoke filling the kitchen open the microwave door. Quickly step back to remove yourself from the flames pouting out the door. Blow on the fire then close the door. Watch until the flames subside. By this time we were all three in the kitchen and laughing. While we were laughing the air conditioner came on and cooled the plate which then exploded, sending all of us in the air a few inches with surprise. Jenny didn't know if she set it for 10 minutes or 11. We haven't been able to clean the mess so wi

A little tidbit

One of the interesting things about Sanibel  is that the sea turtles come ashore here to lay eggs during May and June. Here are the track one left a few nights ago. Every day volunteers go down the beach early in the morning and mark the nests so that you can know where not to walk. Since light can throw the turtles direction finder to get back to the water off, we must close our blinds each night when we turn on our lights because our windows are really sliding class doors and there is nothing but dunes and beach between us and the gulf. We are on the left( as you see it) bottom of the building on the right. The tall grass you see are the sea oats where the new dune is building. Some way behind Sara as she took this photo is the water - how far behind her is based on whether it was high tide or low.  Tomorrow we have to go to the mainland to the VA clinic because Dean's blood sugar is going wild even though he is eating well. He will have to inject insulin for a little wh

A lesson

I hope that you won't mind my being in teacher mode today as I share with you about this barrier island. Sanibel Island is a crescent/paisley shaped island on the southwest coast of FL. It is about five miles wide and about 13 miles long. to the north of it is Captiva Island. When we first began coming down here in the mid 70s, Sanibel and Captiva were separated by Blind Pass, a small inlet to the Gulf.  Hurricane Charlie  closed Blind Pass but separated Captiva from N Captiva, now reached only by boat and airplane. Blind Pass has been closed a number of times over hundreds of years but I am not sure about the opening between Captiva and Captiva. We stay at about the widest part of the island and that has changed also. When we first came our approach to the beach was down a walkway over a bridge and onto the wide beach. Over the years, the bridge has been made longer because the island is building more dunes at this location. I first noticed that there were no longer any s

A Little News

Image
I have a little news. Nine pounds of news that is nine weeks old. Be careful when you go to Home Depot because we went Saturday and came home with nine pounds of mutt. Parentage unknown. Looks like possibly some hound and we have had several wild guesses. We will be getting a DNA kit to determine just what we have. Everyone agrees, though, Ezra Beauregard Berk is a cutie. I don't think you can tell here but he is tiny.    Here he is with Bella Also, I got a new computer and it is now in my possession and it is also tiny - a new MacBook. It is so light and, of course, much faster than mine from 2009. I am just enough of a techie to be really happy with new, but I have decided that I don't need an AppleWatch (although I thought about it for a long time) Sara and Greg are here helping us catch up on things that haven't gotten done since Dean hurt his shoulder so badly. Mainly today Sara and I worked in the house and backyard and Greg worked on the porch with De
